Earthquake, USGS will use Twitter to track

Institute of the US Geological Survey (USGS) has begun to use data from Twitter to track earthquakes. In a post published this week, Twitter explains how the USGS, the government institution responsible for tracking seismic activity, has used Twitter to identify earthquakes worldwide based on user posts. The National Center
of the USGS earthquake information is based on earthquake sensors around 2 thousand, most of whom are in the US, which means a large part of the world remains uncovered. Paul Earle, a USGS and programmer sizmiolog Michelle Guy studied earthquakes posts on Twitter and have found that users report in real time to the ground vibrations, with short posts, no more than seven words. In 2014 they used to track earthquake posts in Napa, California, in 29 seconds, and already are looking more closely at the data integration of Twitter into their algorithms seismic.
