Cooling off procedures depend on the animal, but some are getting multiple checks per day. KVUE tagged along with zoo officials as they made their rounds.
Zoo keepers sprinkle birds and bears with water for 10 to 15 minutes. But some animals such as the lemurs and the wolves
get a frozen treat once an hour. Zoo officials said for some animals, body temperatures can match the temperature outside. In those cases, animals receive outdoor air conditioning. Austin Zoo Executive Director Patti Clark said zoo officialslook for signs of heavy breathing, sweat and empty water buckets.
